Definition of the universe

The Mediapulse television panel's target audience comprises the linguistically assimilated, permanent resident population of Switzerland aged 3 and above in private and collective households (according to economic domicile) with at least one television set.

The permanent resident population comprises all people whose place of residence throughout the year is in Switzerland. In addition to Swiss citizens resident in Switzerland, the permanent resident population thus includes the following foreign population categories: foreign nationals living in Switzerland as settled residents, short-term residents in Switzerland (including recognized refugees and foreigners with short-term residence permits valid for at least 12 months), diplomats and foreign officials.

The size and structure of the universe are adjusted annually in accordance with the annual statistics of the population (ESPOP) of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office. (2011 universe; basis: Annual Population Statistics (ESPOP), 31 December 2009). In addition, the universe calculation incorporates the data relating to the TV density of households with registered telephone connections (2011 universe; basis: New Establishment Survey 2009).
