Design

The NES is carried out in two mutually independent split versions, each involving 10,000 interviews.

• Version 1 is called NES-Zugang (“NES Access”) and establishes the distribution of devices and of transmission media and technologies for receiving radio and TV stations at the household level.
• Version 2 is called NES-Nutzung (“NES Use”) and establishes the frequency of radio and TV use, the distribution of special forms of use and the profile and availability of new distribution technologies at the level of the individual.

The two versions are alternated in four quarterly waves over the course of a year. NES Use is carried out in the first and third quarters, NES Access in the second and fourth quarters.
